In honor of Reverend John Wilkins recently playing two shows in the area, our song of the week for this week is the Rolling Stones covering a song written by his father, Robert Wilkins. The song was originally a secular blues song named That’s No Way to Get Along, but was rewritten when the senior Wilkins became a reverend himself. The Stones’ version can be found on the Beggar’s Banquet album. Coincidentally, or not, one of Robert Wilkins’ best known songs is Rolling Stone, though the Stones were named after the Muddy Waters song of the same name.
